Off-Campus Programs
Earn your Master's Degree in the Detroit area!
For over 20 years, Michigan State University has offered the M.A. in Advertising and the M.A. in Public Relations off campus in metro Detroit. The majority of off-campus students are active industry professionals. The Off-Campus graduate degree requirements, curriculum and classes are the same as on campus, although at times, many of the off-campus professors include working professionals -- leaders in industry who are also highly skilled instructors and researchers who have earned advanced degrees from the nation's best universities.
Students enrolled in the Off-Campus graduate program can earn a master's degree in about two years, taking one to two evening courses per semester in the metro Detroit area.
Courses are held at Walsh College in Novi, Michigan, located just south of I-96 and west of Meadowbrook Road in Novi. The address is: 41500 Gardenbrook Road, Novi, MI 48375-1313. Click Here for a Map.
Graduate Admission Requirements
The APPLICATION PROCEDURE PAGE provides a detailed list of requirements. The suggested deadline for receipt of all application materials is: April 1st for fall semester, October 1st for spring semester, and February 1st for summer semester. Please contact Ms. Pamela Brock at brockp@msu.edu if you anticipate any part of your application arriving after the deadline.
Lifelong Education Status - An Option to Take Classes Before Formal Admission
Prospective students who want to begin taking graduate classes immediately -- before formally applying to a master's degree program -- may take classes as an MSU Lifelong Education Student. This option is a choice for those or who want to "try-out" graduate school, or to take a class of special interest for personal or career growth.
A student may earn up to 10 credits under Lifelong Education Status that can be applied toward a graduate degree program if the courses meet the specific program requirements. Regular Lifelong Education rates are set at a per credit amount. There are no additional fees associated with this status (i.e. no registration, or late registration fees, etc.).
It is recommended that students taking this route formally apply to the master's degree program before completing more than six credits under Lifelong Education Status.
Degree Requirements
A minimum of 30 credits under either Plan A (with thesis) or Plan B (without thesis) is required for the Master's of Arts degree. Students must also meet the requirements for their respective degree programs:
